Starting the Year with a Bang!!!

This year has certainly started with a bang!!!!  I am sorry this post has taken so long to get out.  Life has a way of taking over, and sitting down and writing usually falls to the bottom of the list.

This past week I attended a week of Educator training at Handi Quilter in Utah.  What a great time it was.  All of us together in one room is always an event to look forward to and cherish.  We were missing two educators, but they were there in spirit.

Here’s a few of us knitting at the hotel in the evening!!

I also had another HQ Live this past week…..all about the newest rulers that have been released to the public.  Here it is if you haven’t had a chance to see it.

I haven’t had much time to work on quilts lately, so I really don’t have any eye candy for you, but I hope to be able to get back to quilting sometime soon!!

How about you…..what quilting are you working on?

Happy Quilting!!!

A Very Special Honor!!

Several months ago, I was the guest speaker at Heartland Quilt Guild in Denton, Maryland, which I wrote about in an earlier post, but I will explain here, just in case you missed that one.  I met a young man, Jarrett and his Mom, Nicole, at the meeting.  I originally thought Jarrett was just there with his Mom, and was surprised when it came time for show and tell and he got up and held up a quilt he had recently worked on along with some amazing woodwork that he had done.

I spoke with them after the meeting and suggested that he enter into the Kids Category at MQX.  He did enter into the competition and walked away with a Third Place.  How cool is that!!!  Not only did he get a ribbon, but he received a brand new sewing machine, compliments of Handi Quilter, who was the sponsor for that category.  This sewing machine was so exciting for Jarrett and Nicole, as they had been sharing one machine and taking turns on it.  Now they each have their own machine!!

I recently had Jarrett and his Mom over, so he could see and play with the longarm and see what it is that I do.  He had a wonderful time experimenting with the machine and I am sure one day he will have his own machine!!

While they were there, Jarrett explained that he had been sent a “Mentor Ribbon” to give out, and he wanted to present it to me as he would have never known about the competition without me saying something.

I am so very touched by this.  His Mom should really get the award, as she has mentored him along the way, and she should be extremely proud of her son.  I am thrilled to hang this ribbon very proudly in my quilt room, and of all the ribbons that I have hanging in there, this one has a very special meaning to me!!!  I can’t wait to see what Jarrett does in the future.  I have seen pictures of the next quilt he is working on and it is a beauty!!!

It is such a wonderful thing to see young people interested in sewing and quilting!!  I hope that each of you take time to spread your love of quilting with the younger generation.  You never know who you may inspire and how it may affect their lives.

Happy Quilting!!

Feathers In Free Motion

I recently had the opportunity to film a HQ Live segment for Handi Quilter on Feathers In Free Motion.  I have to say that I was pretty nervous about doing the filming, but Vicki made it so easy.  I had a blast doing the filming and wanted to share the outcome with all of you.

I also have worked on some quilts recently that I didn’t want to forget to show pictures, so here is a little eye candy for you.

This first one is from Jeannie, and we decided on an overall quilting pattern for this one.  Aren’t these colors just gorgeous!?!?!

This next quilt was made by Gina.  The middle is a panel, and the rest is pieced.  She did a beautiful job with this.

I have a couple of other quilts that I will show soon in another post, plus a special visit I had with a young quilter!!

Have a wonderful day and…….Happy Quilting!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Well, the last several weeks have been a whirlwind of travel and very little quilting.  But I did take pictures along the way!!

Here is a recap of my adventures:

First, I went to Logan, Utah to Stylish Fabrics to teach at a Handi Quilter Event.  What a lovely shop and students!!   If you are in Logan, Utah, make sure to stop in to this wonderful shop!!

The scenery when driving from Salt Lake City Airport to Logan, Utah was just amazing!!

Not only did I get to teach at this lovely quilt shop, but one of my educator sisters and friend, Kelly and her family happened to be in Logan, and I was able to have dinner with them.  When you travel, dinner time and evenings can be somewhat lonely, so this was a real treat for me!!

Next up, was a trip to Stroudsburg, PA to Pocono Sew and Vac for a Handi Quilter Event.  Again, it was a lovely drive and a wonderful event filled with great students!!  The store and staff at Pocono Sew & Vac were wonderful.

I then turned around three days later and flew to Houston, Texas for the International Quilt Festival and to work in the Handi Quilter Booth.  What a treat it was to actually attend the Houston Show and as always, it is such fun to chat with customers and help support the Handi Quilter classrooms.  The first day there, we had the opportunity to spend some time walking around the show and shop, which was such a treat!!!

And then look who stopped in the Handi Quilter Booth to try out the newest longarm, the Amara…..none other than Jamie Wallen!!

Two days after returning from Houston, I was off again to a Handi Quilter Event in Denver, Colorado.  Denver Sewing & Vacuum had a hands on event, where the students were able to have a Longarm machine to work on during class.  This was such a fun event and was for four days.

All in all, it was a great few weeks, but it has taken me a few days to finally catch my breath.  I am now ready to hit the ground running with the Holidays coming!!

I am so blessed and thankful for all of you!!  I hope that you all have a wonderful  and blessed Thanksgiving!!!!

Happy Quilting!!
