Making a Splash……Quilt that Is!!!!

I recently purchased a Splash Quilt pattern from Jaybird Quilt Designs.  When I saw the pattern in person, I couldn’t wait to get started.  I had purchased a really fun fat quarter pack at Spring Quilt Market, and then coordinated fabrics from the local quilt shop to match.  The fat quarter pack was from Benartex and is called Endless Summer.

What a great pattern and ruler this was!!  Very well written and the ruler was very easy to use!!  It all went together so easily and then of course I couldn’t wait to quilt it!!

I just love this quilt!!!  Aren’t the sides fun?!?!?!?!?  I even quilted the name of the pattern into one of the sections.

I used Quilter’s Dream Wool Batting on this one, as I love the way that the wool is so lightweight and makes the quilt drape so nicely.  I used Superior So Fine thread for the quilting.

I hope that you are all enjoying your summer!!!  What quilting projects are you working on?

Happy Quilting!!!

Summer Quilting!!!

It is hard to believe that we are near the middle of July already!!  I feel like I have not been posting much and apologize for that.  June was a very busy month for me and I have taken a little bit of time to do some sewing myself and to quilt a couple of my own quilts.

I wanted to post some pictures of some customer quilts I have recently had the honor of working on.

As far as my quilts go,  I am expecting my second grandchild in a couple of months and made a baby quilt for one shower and am now working on one for another baby shower in two weeks.  Yikes!!!  Here is the one that I made for the first shower…..it is a smaller one but a great and easy pattern to make!

This past week I tested a quilt pattern for a friend and decided to quilt it with some contrasting thread in places.  I can’t show the entire thing yet, but can show you some pictures of the quilt as I had it on the frame.

Show Me The MODA – Prairie Prom Quilt

Well, I can finally let the cat out of the bag and let you all know my exciting news!!!!

I recently started long arm quilting for MODA/United Notions.  Woohoo!!!!  This will mean that I will be quilting quilts for them as they get ready for Fall Market and Spring Market each year.  I cannot even begin to express how honored and excited I am!!!

This is the first quilt I was given to quilt for them.

It was pieced by Carrie Nelson and was made of half rectangle triangles.  The darker fabrics came from the table decorations at the MODA Banquet at Spring Market that was called “Prairie Prom”.

I had the pleasure of attending that Banquet so this quilt really has special meaning to me.  The picture above is the decorations on our table.

I really wasn’t sure how I was going to quilt this until I got it on the frame and just started quilting.  I knew that I wanted to incorporate feathers somehow, cause you all know they are one of my favorite things to quilt!!

I absolutely loved the labels on the back of the quilt and how Carrie made the back using extra blocks and then incorporated them into this lovely plaid backing.  The labels were sewn right into the quilt and were printed using an Identi-pen, which is permanent.  I have to admit, I have never tried this method before for labeling my quilts, but I think I am going to be trying this sometime soon.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the pictures of this quilt as much as I enjoyed quilting it!!!

Happy Quilting!!!!
